John,
Jim Julien emailed me and said you were back on the job.
Happy to see you rolling along. They have ROK soldiers on the DMZ now and I imagine a few U.S. advisors. They live like kings.
54 years sure change things. A salute to all veterans and active duty personell. I'm glad I made it to the DMZ.
Keep up the good work.

Hello John - much in life, health etc. kept me busy. Not on the computer as much - and hate phones.
I'm glad to see your up and about, you must have beat the old health problems - thats a good thing.
Out shooting since your better?
I see a lot of new troopers leaving messages - thats a good thing
as we, all troopers, can't forget - as our goverment sure don't care about us.
God bless all that served - you are a special breed - that keeps America free. But be ready to stand and be counted as Washington sure is looking down at us!
100% disabled from being shot in Korea and I'm a proud grunt that would do it all over again. I guess at 75 plus I'm a bit touched in the head!

A lot of memories of the Spartan living condtions back in 1955 to 1956 era.
I managed to save a lot of salary since there was nothing to spend it on.
I am glad I served in the US Army for my required 2 years as I was eligible for the Korean GI Bill Public law 550. I got a BS in Management out of it that has changed my life for the better.

I am now 70 years old and have been diagnosed with CLL (Chronic Lymphacytic Leukemia).  I was a helicopter engine mechanic, mostly H-21's.  Exposed to a lot of cleaning solvents, VA tells me that I have to prove my association with these chemicals.  The only thing in my records is my DD-214.  I am told everything else was lost in a fire.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated and definately needed.

Enjoyed, some of the pics from the 9th Cav. Unit
I was at Camp Rice as a wheeled vehicle mecanic.
I moved equipment from Camp Rice to Seoul.
Picked up some artillery pieces at Camp Casey-moved them back to Seoul. We excavated some M-52 tanks, that were disabled. We would
load them on railroad flat cars at Ugjonbu and send them back to Seoul.
Some hard work, but good job, too far from home.
I am a disabled veteran now. Just turned 71 years old. 12/08/1941-birthdate.

Comments:
I never served in the 1st Cav per se but was attached to in the mid-seventies as part of PSYOP contingency from Ft Bragg to Ft Hood.  PSYOP was still in its infancy then and units didn't have their own PSYOPS like they do now.  So, we were all over the place providing PSYOPS.  We were even alerted to Wounded Knee to provide equipment only support - no US Troops could be used.

I was with the 7th Cav in Korea - early 70's.  C Troop, 4th Sqd, 7th US Cav, Camp Rice.  We performed recon duty around the DMZ.  Very little garrison duty as I recall - always in the field.  I always appreciated the no-nonsense Cav approach to duty.

I served a 13 month tour beginning July 1958-August 1959. We were located between the Imjin River and the DMZ. C troop patrolled the center section of the Southern DMZ border. Our Troop HQ was just to the right of Freedom bridge which was was to be blown up if we were attacked.  C Troop CO was Capt McCoy from Kansas and the 9th Cavalry CO was Col. Chandler.  Anyone who I might know, give me a shout.
