Location City/State (Now): Lithia, FL Are/Were you 1st Cavalry? Yes If yes, when and where did you serve with the 1st. Cav. "C " Troop,1st Recon Sqd, 9th Cav Comments: Served with "C" Troop, 59-60. Was a tank driver in 3rd Platoon. C Troop was the most fortunate as we had the PX and movie theater within our compound. Of course we were also under the gaze of the officer's club. That had it's disadvantages.

VFW Post 2924 in Hesperia Calif wants me to prove that i was in the DMZ with the 9th Cav. my DD214 says that 3yrs active service. or 1yr/5months/16 days foreign and or sea service. Troop A, 1-9 Cav, 1st Cav Div, South Korea, Jan 62-Jan63 Comments: I was XO of Troop A the year I was in Korea. During that time, a soldier (Larry Abshire) recently assigned for disciplinary reasons from the MP company at Div HQ defected to the North. Also during that year, the North Koreans attacked one of our LPs killing one and wounding another of the three soldiers on duty.

Cav. 1st RCN SQ 9th CAV Comments: Started out with the 24th RCN in May 1957, part of the 24 Inf. Div. Became the 1st RCN, 9th CAV in the fall of 1957. Left Korea in August 1958, just as they cut the tour to 12 months. Still remember the snow, rain, dust and hot weather. Was assigned to the communications platoon for all of my tour. Nice to have such a good site as this, keep up the good work John

Location City/State (Now): Roswell, NM Are/Were you 1st Cavalry? My father was. If yes, when and where did you serve with the 1st. Cav. Korea circa 1950 Comments: My father was with the 1st Cav. I have a picture of him in uniform and the patch is seen. I know that he was in Korea in 1950 because on his DD214 It says that he was wounded on Sept. 16, 1950. I know nothing of his time there except for what my uncle told me because my father would never talk about it. This patch was a particular sore subject with him. Now he's gone and it's the one area I want most to know about. He and my mother divorced when I was 7 and I never really knew him. I guess I'm trying to hold a little piece of him. His name was Billy G. Haddox. I would welcome any and all information.

What Unit(s)? me Comments: Delta company 4th cav was located 1/2 mile south of freedom bridge near the village of munson-ni* some of the folks I served with was Paul Wilson from Detroit. Sgt Kratavil, Sgt Bailey, Phillip Serwick, Leon Evans. Sgt Barney from Ft Sill , Sgt Lau from Hawaii and many other good soldiers that I have forgotten the names of . Funny I dont remember any officers names at all. Those of us who served in a rifle company , well you would have to have been there and done that to realize it.

I have copies of my orders, along with the names of several others that were assigned to various units in the 9th Cav. Thanks for the site John, if brings back a lot of memories.

Btry., Pobwon-Ni What Unit(s)? goggle Comments: Served at Camp Snow, just south of the "Mickey Mouse Corner" in Pobwon-Ni. Lots of alerts, field duty, guard duty on the perimeter wire with the old M-1. Extremes of climate - hot and humid, and cold as hell! Quonset hut living, 10 cent beer at the club, and of course the "vil". R&R ("rape and rampage") in Japan (Kishini barracks and the Ginza), and the occasional 2 or 3 day pass to Seoul and SAC compound. Great memories all, not the least of which were the many excellent soldiers I served with!
