I knew PFC Roy Colyn Green who was killed after stepping on a land mine right after exiting from the helicopter to begin our Search and Destroy mission. He was a good man and I can still remember him writing letters home whenever he got the chance. "Doc" Hernandez

Comments: I was doing a web search for Munsan when I came across this site. I noticed a man was looking for a map, AMS series L851, Libby Bridge area. I was a draftsman and I believe I have a map of that area. It's a 4 section map taped together and very old. It measures 36" x 36" which can be reproduced. I also have a few photos of the map. If anyone is interested they can email me.
I'm going to familiarize myself with this interesting site.

Served 16 month tour via Cuban missile crisis. We were issued ammo and sent to our hold positions where we remained for most of the day. Cold winters, hot summers, kimchee, warm floors, Quonset huts, 5 gallon can barrel space heaters, houseboys, and a lot of other memories. After 16 months I wanted to go home, but as I sat in the back of the deuce and a half I was filled with a sense of loss. The camaraderie was now gone. We were lucky we had a theater, bowling alley, library and snack bar.

Comments: John, Great site, as always. Amazing, isn't it, how nostalgic we get, as we age, for those "old days, when we were young, and soldiers"! Vivid memories continue to percolate down as I talk regularly with several Starbuck's coffee buddies who are either Korea or Vietnam vets. Words like /C-Rations (my favorites were peaches, or applesauce, or -----?), blister bags, (remember how hot and nasty a drink out of those suckers was on a hot, humid, dusty day?), guard mount, (recall how you always hoped to make supernumerary, the man, so you didn't have to freeze or sweat your buns off walking a post or standing in a guard tower over the concertina wire on the perimeter? midnight curfew, when you just wanted to spend some more time in that "hootch" in the vil, or have another beer or two? And last but not least, the two a.m. siren or claxen, an alert, the sergeant yelling "saddle-up", we're moving up on the Z!" Great times all, at least in the memory of this old soldier!
