Comments: As a combat vet who has borne the brunt of our nations actions in Vietnam, bearing freedoms sword, and feeling the embarrassment and scorn heaped upon warriors from that conflict, I salute you! I am heartened to see the outpouring of patriotic spirit here... I invite those who pass here to visit my "Vietnam Picture Tour, http://pzzzz.tripod.com/namtour.html from the lens and poet’s pen of a combat infantryman, from one who's walked the walk, and can talk the talk...Take a walk in "the park" with the 1st Air Cavalry on combat patrol, that in reality will give you the sweet and sour taste of "the Nam" on your tongue, leave the pungent smell of "the Nam" acrid in your nostrils, and embed textures of "the Nam" in your brain as though you walked beside me in combat.

Troopers, It is with great sadness that I report the passing of a good man, a true gentleman in every sense of the word, who was one of the best men I had the pleasure of knowing. Norman Tredway, National Commander of the Korea Defense Veterans of America (KDVA) left us on Thursday, 8 October 2009. Services for Norm have already been held. If I were to post anymore at this time it would be pure speculation. However, I will say this; without Norm’s unflinching dedication and determination, literally hundreds of thousands of Korea Defense Veterans including our active duty military would not have their KDSM’s! It was his tireless leadership that brought the medal to those that served in Korea from July of 1954 to present day. Norm was the big brother that I otherwise never had. Did I love the man, you bet I did! Do I/will I miss our almost monthly hour long plus phone chats, you bet I will!

Comments: Remember the 4 op's we manned. Ann, Jane, Glady's and Arlene. We had,I say had an outhouse on Ann and one night in Jan 63 it got so cold and we had no fuel for the flimsy stove in the OP that we were burning wood from the outhouse to stay warm. My best closest friend there was Jim Fleming from Bronx, NY.,but he got transfered to Hq. troop in Jan or so to train with the Davy Crocket. He was with me the last night I spent there. I don't know how I got up the next morning to get a jeep ride to Kimpo. To many memories. Some good, some bad. I could write a book

John, a year or 2 ago I found some pictures and the Stars & Stripes story of the NK ambush on the OP jeep in July of 1963. I was with A co 15th Armor at that time and north of the river just around the curve from the RC there. Last week I had to upgrade and replace my PC and lost just about everything I had saved on it. I had some of the story but not all left of that incident and hope that you may be able to recover it for me so I can down load it again. I have tried over the last few years to put together info on my 24 1/2 years in the army of which 3 tours were in Korea, all good and not one bad. I liked Korea a lot better than duty in Germany. I did time with 7th ID untilmy company got sent to the 1st CAV DIV in June 63, 2nd tour was C trp. 4/7th CAV, and 3rd tour was C co 1/72nd Armor at Casey. Anyway, I hope you can help me in this matter. I served in 13 different Divisions/brigades, and the best 2 were the CAV and 2nd ID. Take care brother. Vic Pitts, Kings Mountain N.C.

Comments: John,
Just thought I would re-enter my information again. I started out in 1957 with the 24th Recon. Co, north of the river. Supported the 19th Inf. Regt. and all the OPs. Later became HH of the 1st Recon. Sqdn. 9th Cav. Had to lower our stripes to put the big Cav patch on. Rotated back to US in August 1958.
Got back with the 1st Cav in 1965 and got caught up in the Irang Valley fight with the 2nd of the 7th. Nasty.
Left the service in 1966 and have now retired.
Your web site has always been one the best. Keep it up
Jim

Hq Trp had the worst food in the entire Army but the 9th is the best unit I ever served in even if we were north of the Injim River. I salute every 1st Cav soldier past, present and future. We shall prevail. Connected with a lot of friends through the efforts of John Macleans site that I never expected to hear from again. 50 years have slipped by and now we are dinosaurs.
